Privacy Policy - Ahrefs DR Authority
Last updated: 30 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Ahrefs DR Authority Chrome extension (“the Extension”) handles information. The Extension is built and maintained by alstonantony.com. Your privacy matters, and the Extension is designed to collect and retain as little data as possible.
Single Purpose
The Extension has one purpose: to retrieve and display the Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR) authority score for a website’s domain. It does this either for the page you are currently viewing (via the “Analyze Domain” button in the popup) or for a link you right-click (via the “Check Domain Authority” menu item), which displays the result in a floating card on the page.
Information We Process
To return a Domain Rating, the Extension reads only the domain name (hostname) of the page you are viewing or of the link you right-click. This domain name is classified by the Chrome Web Store as “Website content.” The Extension does not read, collect, or transmit any of the following:
- Personally identifiable information (name, email, address, age, ID numbers)
- Health information
- Financial or payment information
- Authentication information (passwords, credentials, PINs)
- Personal communications (emails, texts, chat messages)
- Location data (GPS, precise IP-based location)
- Your browsing history
- User activity such as clicks, keystrokes, scrolling, or mouse movement
- Page text, images, audio, or video content
How the Information Is Used
The domain name is sent only when you take a direct action (“Analyze Domain” or “Check Domain Authority”). It is transmitted to the free Ahrefs public Domain Rating API endpoint (https://api.ahrefs.com/v3/public/domain-rating-free) solely to retrieve that domain’s DR score. The score is then displayed to you. The Extension does not send the domain anywhere else.
Data Storage and Retention
The Extension does not store, cache, log, or retain the domains you analyze or the results returned. No data is saved on your device or on any server controlled by the developer. Nothing persists once the result is displayed.
Data Sharing and Sale
The developer does not sell or transfer your data to third parties, does not use or transfer your data for any purpose unrelated to the Extension’s single purpose, and does not use or transfer your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Third-Party Service (Ahrefs)
When you request a Domain Rating, the domain you choose is sent to Ahrefs, whose handling of requests is governed by their own terms and the Ahrefs Domain Rating License. Please review Ahrefs for more information about their data practices.
Permissions
The Extension requests only the permissions needed to fulfill its single purpose: reading the current tab’s domain on your action (activeTab), adding the right-click menu item (contextMenus), injecting the result card into the active page (scripting), and contacting the Ahrefs API (host access to api.ahrefs.com). None of these are used to track you.
Children’s Privacy
The Extension is a general-purpose SEO tool and is not directed at children, and it does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
