How Alston Tests & Rates AI Tools

Every review on this hub follows the same process: install the tool, use it on a real workflow for 5 to 10 hours, compare it against two or three direct competitors, and document what the marketing page leaves out. When a tool earns its place it also shows up in the relevant best AI tools roundups, and where a cheaper or free swap exists you will find it in our AI tool alternatives comparisons.
The Testing Process
- Sign up and test hands-on. A real account, a real workflow, a real project, usually over 2 to 4 weeks before publishing.
- Compare against alternatives. Side-by-side pricing and feature tables, not vague mentions.
- Lead with limitations. What is missing and who should skip the tool comes before what is good about it.
- Recommend for a specific audience. Who the tool is right for, and who should look elsewhere, with specific reasoning.
- Cite sources. Pricing, ratings, and feature claims link to the original source.

How long does it take to review an AI tool?
